2012 AMA National #1 1000-P-CG Class

19 year old Clayton Gatewood and father Drew Gatewood of Hoosier Daddy Racing recently built a motorcycle for competition at the Bonneville Salts Flats in Utah. The race event was the 9th Annual BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials; which attracts motorcycle landspeed enthusiasts from around the world. Their goal was to try and set a National Landspeed Record in the new AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) "Classic Class". It is for motorcycles manufactured from 1956 up to 35 years prior to the current year. The Gatewood's 1977 Harley-Davidson XLCR with Clayton as rider, and Dad as tuner successfully achieved their goal with a 2 way record setting average of 119.303 mph, and a top speed of 121.481 mph in the 1000-P-CG class. They are aiming for 130+ mph in 2013. Plus, make a World Record attempt aboard another motorcycle that is currently under construction. See their machine at speed on YouTube, “Clayton Racing XLCR”.

As I mentioned earlier on this site my AMA/F.I.M. Technical Steward license has taken me to many different races and race disciples around the U.S. Some of which are as follows.

* AMA Amateur Dirttrack Grand Championships, DuQuoin State Fairgrounds, DuQuoin, Illinois

* F.I.M. MOTO GP Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, California

When at home, and not building engines, my Wife, youngest Son, and I jump on the sidecar rig and I attend many different dirt races; from stockcars to flattrack to my favorite which is Speedway Racing. If you've never seen alcohol burning, brakeless, speedway motorcycles you owe it to yourself. A four lap race on a small dirt oval lasts about one minute!!

Plus, keep an eye on this website for updates on the Jawa Landspeed racing motorcycle currently being built.

Finished Rolling Chassis (Seeley Roadrace Replica) built by www.framecrafters.net. Framecrafters designed and built the frame, swingarm, and fuel tank. They do great work, and come highly recommended.
